Overcoming challenges
The brief, and how we landed it
The challenge
The landlord's licence-to-alter allowed only six weeks of fit-out before the lease handback penalty kicked in. The design called for solid marble display plinths that weighed over 300 kg each — above the mall's floor loading limit. Late design changes during production threatened to derail the programme twice.
How we delivered
We re-engineered the plinths as marble-clad honeycomb cores at 68 kg each, approved by the mall's structural engineer on first submission. Fixtures were produced as pre-assembled, pre-wired modules so the local shopfitter only had to level and connect. A weekly change-control call with the design team kept the two late revisions inside the schedule by re-sequencing the paint and assembly lines.

Value engineering on this project
Swapping solid marble for 5 mm stone on aluminium honeycomb cut plinth weight by 78% and material cost by 52%, and removed the need for floor reinforcement. Cash-wrap counters were standardised on one carcass with interchangeable front panels, so a late finish change became a panel swap rather than a rebuild. Pre-wiring lighting in the factory removed two on-site trades from the six-week programme.
